Thanks to the advanced and mature mining system, mining environment and well-developed mining labor market in Australia, Focus has professional management team and technology strength even though it is just a small listed company in Western Australia. The new geophysical and geochemical exploration techniques are widely used in company's exploration. Geological databases, various geologic software and resource model optimization are necessary tools for company's geological work.
Among the 19 employees of Focus, there are 7 geologists. They are members of relevant professional associations in Australia and Canada. Among the geologists, 4 competent persons (CP) are responsible for and involved in the disclosure of information, such as Focus's exploration results and resource volumes. According to the Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC) specifications, the competent person shall be a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), the Australian Institute of Geologists (AIG) or an accredited professional institution. The competent person should be familiar with the JORC specifications and have sufficient experience and knowledge in the relevant field.
With the acceleration of the group's “Going Out“ pace, the demand for overseas mining talents is becoming stronger increasingly. The group has conducted business English training courses to enhance the team's international language ability, and participated in the World Metal Mining Conference to broaden the global vision of the professional administrative staff. What's more, the group also has organized personnel to overseas mining companies to make investigation and negotiation and organized personnel selection for the “Going to overseas mines to work and study“ campaign. All these measures embodied the group's determination and efforts on cultivating international professional talents.

Through Focus, we understand that as an overseas mining staff, in addition to the basic language preparation, a wealth of professional mining experience is also needed. Geologists should be familiar with a variety of regional geological working methods, such as geophysics and geochemistry, and be proficient in the use of geological information databases and GEOVIA Surpac geological software. Miners use mine geology model, GEOVIA Whittle mine design and optimization design software skillfully. Such requirements are the basic occupational requirements in the overseas mining industry. Dane Etheridge, Secretary of the board of directors and Development Manager of Focus, describes Focus in his mind like this: The work description is very clear, and the responsibilities and authorities among people are equally clear. From the simple flat management of the company structure to finding the root causes of problems, from the interrelationships among people to the complete separation of one's work and life, all these things reflect a western -style simplicity.
Michael, environmental engineer of Focus told us that most companies in Australia place more emphasis on team communication and collaboration and advocate direct inquiry. For example, there will be exact responsibilities and objectives for each position during the application period, and there will be a clear career planning for each individual to allow them to focus on their own work better. A relevant “tutor system“, guiding and evaluating new recruits in the probation period, is similar to China's domestic “master“. What's more, others will answer any questions without hiding from the simple starting point — a common goal.
We also had the honor to experience the Easter and staff's birthday parties in Focus. At 10 o'clock in the morning of the day before the holiday, all employees gathered in the tea break room outside the office area, sitting or standing to form a circle around the wall. There were two sets of desserts on the desk; one was made by the company's employee Hanna, while the other, several groups of chocolate cake, was bought by the company. After the short opening remarks of the company's CEO Yang Wanghong, we began to share this simple “Festival feast“. We chatted with each other on some relaxing topics during the process and came back to work 10 minutes later. The staff's birthday party is generally arranged on Friday with two different flavors of sandwiches as the main dish of the feast.

Simple places, refreshments and ways, such are the Focus's Easter and Birthday party, and this once again confirms the western-style simplicity in her unique way. In the mining area and on Friday every week as well, the field staffs will also take the opportunity of safety meeting to organize a simple BBQ. This form of relaxation has become a simple ornament to mining work and life.
